This Year's Theme
Science, Technology and Society
2010 is about raising awareness in the Commonwealth around issues of science and development. Science and technology are central to society and fundamental to human development. In today's world they underpin communication, commerce, arts and culture, health, wealth and human rights.
At the Kampala Commonwealth People's Forum in 2007, the Commonwealth called for renewed commitment to science and technology.
The theme will remind Commonwealth institutions that science underpins economic and social progress, and that access to technology is fundamental to equitability and the implementation of democracy. Science can help to address poor governance through improved accountability and monitoring. It is fundamental to appropriate policy-making in use of natural resources such as forests, fisheries, or in planning waste management, water supply, sanitation and environmental health. Science and technology contribute to wealth creation and poverty eradication, and good health provision.

ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

ENERGY AND ALTERNATIVE SOURCES
Alternative and renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar and water are increasingly being turned to in order for individual countries to become more self-sustaining in terms of their energy production and usage.
SCIENCE EDUCATION
The goal is a world in which every individual has access to high quality universal education regardless of their gender, age, socio-economic status, or ethnicity.
