2010 Celebration of Science, Technology and Society Across the Commonwealth
PSF is a premier organisation for promotion and funding of scientific research and related activities having bearing on socio-economic needs of the country and popularisation of science for the development of science culture in the society. Two subsidiary organisations, i.e. Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH), Islamabad and Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre (PASTIC), Islamabad are also working under the administrative control of PSF.
The following activities have been planned to be undertaken regarding the theme “Science, Technology & Society”:
- Celebration of year 2010 as “The Year of Biodiversity Conservation”. Activities like Biodiversity Day, Science Teachers Training, Photographic Exhibition, Media Workshop and International Symposium on Biodiversity of Pakistan in October, 2010 have also been planned to commemorate the year.
- Special PASTIC Services Stalls in the Universities, taking scientific information to the doorsteps of the researchers on March 08, 2010.
- Meetings of PSF Technical Committees for recommendation of basic & applied research projects in Agriculture, Environment and Medical Sciences during March 2010.
- Science Caravan Exhibitions in Schools of Rural Areas (Distt Sibi , Distt. Rannipur, Distt. Bhakkar and Distt. Manshra) during February, March & May 2010, respectively.
- Science Essay and Poster Competition on”Islam and Science” and “Fuel Resources in 21st Century” in April, 2010.
- PSF under its “Awards for Inventions and Innovations” programme provided partial financial assistance to develop ‘Race Car’ by GIK Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Swabi, Pakistan for participation in Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2010 to be held in Malaysia during July 2010.
