Commonwealth Day
Trinidad and Tobago Celebrates Commonwealth Day 2010
The Commonwealth Day Celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago was held under the united effort of the RCS (the Royal Commonwealth Society) (NGO), the IIR (Institute of International Relations) of the University of the West Indies, the Commonwealth Scholars Alumni and G.O.International- Consultants in Education (FBO), at the Centre for Language Learning of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
The first session heard on opening address from Prof. C. Sankat, Principal of the University who called for an Intellectual Commonwealth where we can share information and knowledge with resources among the Commonwealth of Nations. An interactive presentation was done by Prof. Narinesingh and Prof. Emeritus J. Spence on the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture and its benefit to society. Presentations were heard from Mrs. Y. Comeau, Dr. D. McGaw and Mr. S. Sandiford.
The second part of the celebrations took place at the Institute of International Relations where we heard India’s role and contributions to the Commonwealth presented by His Excellency, Mr. Malay Mishra, India High Commissioner and a literary presentation by Prof. Funso Aiyejina, Winner of the Commonwealth Writers Prize for First Book in Africa, 2000. The day was not complete until you visited the display of ‘statelite farming’ by the Commonwealth Scholars Alumni headed by Dr. Aweeda Fyzul. 
The day was supported by a representative from the British High Commission, UK Women’s Club, representatives of the IRO (Inter Religious Organisation), other RCS members, other alumni scholars, Friends of the Commonwealth, students and lecturers of the University of the West Indies, students and teachers from Secondary Schools, and members of the Media.
