About Us
With a history dating back to 1901, the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is an international development partnership between the Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth governments, businesses and civil society organisations. CTO provides the international community with effective means to help bridge the digital divide and achieve social and economic development, by delivering to developing countries unique knowledge-sharing programmes in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
With its headquarters in London and recipient members based in Europe, the Caribbean, Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions, CTO has been at the centre of continuous and extensive international communications development funding, co-operation and assistance programmes. CTO’s mission is to reduce global poverty and its development agenda reflects the development challenge set in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The CTO also provides professional training and capacity building programmes through its Programme for Development and Training (PDT) and iLearn initiatives, and is the trusted partner of policy makers, regulators, donor agencies, operators, technology and equipment manufacturers for their research, advisory and consultancy needs.

The Road to 4G
The CTO has organised a one-day workshop on the 25th of March 2010, at the Girassol Indy Congress Hotel & Spa, during the CTO’s 4th Annual e-Government Africa Forum in Maputo, Mozambique. Led by Motorola experts, the workshop centres around wireless technologies and the long-term evolution to 4th generation of mobile network technologies. The focus will be highly technical in nature, with GSM, CDMA, WiMax and LTE standards explained in detail, and a range of solutions presented.
